Week of October 16th

This week, we got our keyboards.  We have been working on using our home row to type and have been practicing to type our spelling words into sentences this week.

We are super proud of Reese and Evan for winning the Citizen of the Month this month.  Evan was nominated by our class and Reese was nominated by Ms. Grey for Media time.

This week in math, we have been working on investigating multiplicative strategies.  Students were given a problem they had to solve.  Partners worked together to determine an unknown number based on what they knew.  I was so impressed with their thinking and explanations!

We always have so much fun at library checkout time.  This week we learned about reading Mark Twain nominees.  Be sure to ask your kiddo how they can participate.

Math, Writing and Geography, Oh My!!

This week in math, since we've talked about square numbers, area and prime and composite number, we've used lots of manipulatives. We've loved talking and helping each other understand these concepts.

In writing, we realized that our stories needed a little more focus and structure.  We backed up and put our events onto a story arc plan sheet.  Students talked to each other and helped give ideas.  I always remind them that writers get ideas from other writers and our classroom should never be silent during writing time.

I hope we are ready for the maps quiz!  We have been studying using lots of different strategies.
